Extreme Burn by Richard Sanders

I had just finished extolling the many virtues of Tom Isaacson’s excellent “Prophet” when I came across Richard Sanders’ similar and equally noteworthy “Extreme Burn.” These are both first rate approaches to the same basic effect and if you’re interested in performing a bill change where paper currency quickly changes denominations, personal preference will drive your choice.

Easy Come, Easy Go
This effect has seen various incarnations that include: Hundy 500 (Gregory Wilson) and Heiny 500 (Karl Hein) (please click here to read my review). In all of these effects, five one-dollar bills quickly change into five one-hundred dollar bills and then back again. All rely on the Patrick Page gimmick. While the evolutionary versions along the way have been convincing, for now, Prophet and Extreme Burn rank at the top.

While Isaacson’s Prophet has you holding the bill openly when you make the change, in Extreme Burn, you flick the bills to cause the change. The “Extreme Burn” occurs in a blink of the eye and Sanders offers several variations that you can choose from. I find the Sanders change to be slightly easier than that of the Isaacson to perform.

Freedom of Choice
Sanders offers excellent and thorough instructions on making the gimmick and walks you through his handlings, step by step. You’ll need basic office tools that you probably already have and some rubber cement. Extreme burn also comes with a small gimmick that becomes part of your final prop that assists the change.

If you’ve been wanting to perform this effect, my advice is to watch the videos for the respective products and choose the one that you like best.
